About The FREE Dance Program

Each One Teach One is a summer youth mentorship program founded by Emiko Sugiyama and 501c3 non-profit organization J.U.i.C.E. (Justice by Uniting Creative Energy).  The program will put together a team of emerging dancers to get trained in choreography and event production. Guest instructors in both dance and event production will be invited to teach workshops throughout the program. Dancers will prepare for their performance while learning the ins and outs of event production, including auditions, contracts, online and street marketing and promotion, and sound and lighting. At the culmination of this program, dancers will perform on stage at the world-famous Ford Amphitheater. 

Program goals: 

Build knowledge in both dance and major dance event production

Build Technical skills in dance such as poppin', lockin, capoeira, choreo, breakin', and more; build technical skills in event production

Build relationships with peers and mentors

Provide access to professional networks and opportunities 

Showcase work publicly at The Fifth Annual J.U.i.C.E Hip Hop Dance Festival on Saturday Sep. 22, 2012.

Workshop Schedule:

Days: Wednesdays and Fridays 4:30PM ~ 6:30PM

Total weeks: 15 weeks total (June 6th- Sep. 26th)

 Performance prep: Tech rehearsal on Sep. 19th, dress rehearsal on Sep. 20th, and performance on Sep. 22 at the Ford Amphitheater.

Program Instructor and Coordinator

Emiko Sugiyama will direct this program and guide the participants to deepen their understanding of dance theater production, event marketing, choreography, and the performing arts.

Emiko has performed with numerous dance companies and in countless festivals all across the United States and internationally. She has been invited to teach, compete and judge competitions all over the world. She was featured as the cover girl for We B*girls, a hardcover book by world renowned photojournalist Martha Cooper, documenting extraordinary women in Hip-Hop. Emiko also has extensive experience producing events, festivals and programs, including last year’s JHHDF, the “Bgirl Challenge,” a ten week intensive breakdance training session geared toward boosting the confidence and skills of emerging female dancers and “Hip Hop Island” a youth summer camp to introduce at-risk youth to the positive artistic elements of the hip hop culture.

Her dance and choreography credits: Sacramento Kings (NBA and WNBA) half time show, Breakestra Music Video “Get Your Soul Together,” Warp Tour in Las Vegas, Thalia feat. Fat Joe “I want you,” Lipton tour 2003 on ABC Good Morning America. KRS One Warren G & Lil Ai Music video, NIKE Town in store commercial. Emiko will be the Producer of the J.U.i.C.E. Hip-Hop Dance Festival and primary instructor of the dance students in the intensive dance program leading up to the festival 

What we are looking for:

JHHDF is looking for twelve dancers age between 15 to 20 years old who have some experience in any style of Hip Hop Dance (breakin', poppin', lockin', etc.) We are looking for participants who aspire to pursue a professional career as a dancer/artist and are searching for an opportunity to learn the skills to choreograph, perform, produce a dance show and events.


The participants must be between 15 to 20 years old. If you are under 18 years old you must turn in your guardian's permission with the application. 

You must be comfortable dancing in at least one style of Hip Hop dance 

All participants must be available for all the weekly classes from 4:30PM ~ 6:30PM on Wednesday and Friday starting on June 6th Wednesday, tech rehearsal on Sep. 19th, dress rehearsal on Sep. 20th, and performance on Sep. 22nd. 

It is each participant's responsibility to provide transportation to attend weekly classes. 

The participants are required to join street marketing team to promote the festival.
